Avner Dorman
Contemporary Israeli composer and conductor who lives and works in the USA. He studied music at the Faculty of Physics at Tel Aviv University being a student of the composer Josef Bardanashvili. Later on he received a PhD degree in Composition at the Juliard School in John Corrigano's group.
At the age of 25, Avner Dorman became the youngest composer in history who has received the prestigious Israeli Prime Minister's Award. The same year he got the ACUM award for the symphony Ellef (2001). Since then, Avner has won numerous prizes and awards, among which: ACUM Best Years Award (2004), First Time Aid (2004), Morton Gould Young Composers Award (2003, 2004, 2005), IcExcellence Foundation Chosen Artist (2008), International Opera Awards (finalist, World Premiere category, 2018), Azrieli Prize for Jewish Music for Nigunim (2018).
Composer’s creative contribution impresses with the genre diversity: from chamber and solo works for one performer to large symphonic compositions and operas. In 2018, Avner's debut opera “Wahnried” was honored with the International Opera Awards in the World Premiere category.
Dorman’s pieces of music comprise crucial part of best world orchestras’ repertoires, such as New York Philharmonic, Los Angeles Philharmonic, San Francisco Symphony, Munich Philharmonic, Israel Philharmonic Orchestra as well as Vienna Radio Symphony Orchestra.
The composer’s music is released by numerous labels, including Naxos, Deutsche Grammophone, Canary Classics.
Avner Dorman’s musical style is marked by a combination of jeweler's skill and his attentiveness to the smallest details, strict technique and emotional insight with all these giving his compositions a unique “flavor” characteristic of the Mideast traditional music.
Emmanuel Sejourné
Contemporary French composer and percussionist who was born in Limoges. He learned to play piano and violin and studied music history, acoustic and musical analysis at the Strasbourg Conservatory, after which, in 1976, he continued his professional musical education as a percussionist, joining a group of Jean Batigne, the founder of the legendary Strasbourg percussion ensemble (Les Percussions de Strasbourg), who aroused the future composer's interest in modern and improvisational music and encouraged him for active self-development and creativity. Since 1984 Emmanuel Sejourné has headed the Percussion Department of the Strasbourg Conservatory and conducted master classes that have been extremely successful at European conservatories, D Munich Competition, Geneve, Tromp Competition, Salzburg Marimba Competition.
His works for percussion are very popular and performed all around the world (in Germany, Switzerland, Poland, Latvia, Bulgaria, Brazil, Turkey, China and Korea). The Concert for Marimba and String Orchestra is the greatest among them. It was created by request of percussionist Bogdan Bakanov. And since 2005 it has become the main piece in the repertoire of the marimba and has more than 400 performances with orchestra. However, in his work the composer is not limited to music for percussion only, referring to different genres of chamber, symphonic and choral music.
The musical style of Emmanuel Sejourné is a synthesis of Western European academic tradition, jazz, rock and extra-European musical culture.
Rodrigo and Gabriela
The duet of Mexican guitarists Rodrigo Sánchez (solo-guitar) and Gabriela Quintero (rhythm-guitar) was founded in 2000. The combination of flamenco and Latin rock, in which Latin harmonies and rock composition overlap, has become the zest of their music style. Their creative contribution comprises 5 studio albums. Their works are soundtracks to the movie “Pirates of the Caribbean” and “Breaking Bad” series.
